The ABC transporters are a large family of conserved proteins that transport a wide variety of molecules across cellular membranes. ABCA1 is a member of the ABCA subfamily, which acts as a lipid translocator. The molecule was originally identified as a scavenger receptor on macrophages and research shows that ABCA1 also plays a major role in cholesterol metabolism. ABCA1 may play an important role in protecting against cardiovascular disease. Mutations in ABCA1 gene have been associated with Tangiers disease, a genetic disorder of lipid metabolism, and familial high density lipoprotein (HDL) deficiency. Applications: Suitable for use in Flow Cytometry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Flow Cytometry: Neat; 10ul labels 10e6 cells in 100ul Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, aliquot and store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. FITC conjugates are sensitive to light.
