Apoptotic chromatin condenser inducer 1a (acin-1a) is a zebrafish gene similar to the human gene Acinus. However, there is little published scientific literature currently available for zebrafish acin-1a. Human Acinus is a nuclear factor involved in the induction of apoptotic chromatin condensation after cleavage by caspase-3. One study demonstrated AAC-11, a survival protein that prevents growth factor deprivation initiated apoptosis, binds Acinus to prevent Acinus-mediated DNA fragmentation.
