| Additional info: | CD4, a transmembrane glycoprotein, is present on the surface of a majority of thymocytes and T cell subpopulations, which recognize antigens presented by MHC class II molecules. The CD4 antigen is also found on monocytes, dendritic cells, tissue macrophages and granulocytes. CD4+ T lymphocytes are presented by functional T-helper cells and CD4+CD25+ regulatory (suppressor) T cells. Estimation of CD4+ T cell level could be used for immunological status monitoring. |
