Alpha-2 ceruloplasmin is copper containing alpha-2 glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 160000. Its mean concentration in plasma of adults is 32mg/100ml. Elevated levels are observed in pregnant women, in patients with infectious diseases and the nephritic syndrome. More than 90% of the plasma copper is bound to this protein. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA, Immunoelectrophoresis and Double Radial Immunodiffusion. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Immunoelectrophoresis: 120ul against 2ul or equivalent Double Radial Immunodiffusion (Ouchterlony): Use a rosette arrangement with 10ul in a 3mm diameter center well and 2ul serum samples (neat and serially diluted) in 2mm diameter peripheral wells. Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20 degrees C. Stable for 12 months at -20 degrees C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

Additional info: Recognizes human alpha-2 ceruloplasmin. In immunoelectrophoresis and radial immunodiffusion (Ouchterlony) against fresh normal human plasma a single precipitin line is obtained which shows a reaction of identity with the precipitin line obtained with purified alpha-2 ceruloplasmin. No reaction is obtained with any other plasma protein component or serum.
