ADAM33 is a widely expressed member of the ADAM family of transmembrane proteins. It contains a metalloprotease-like domain, disintegrin cell adhesion domain, and cysteine rich domain. ADAM33 is involved in the maintenance of airway function, and ADAM33 polymorphisms have been associated with asthma susceptibility and bronchial hyperresponsiveness. Within the mature ectodomain, human and mouse ADAM33 share 79% aa sequence identity.
