The serine-threonine kinase Akt, also known as protein kinase B (PKB), is an important effector for phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase signaling, initiated by numerous growth factors and hormones. Three mammalian isoforms (Akt1/PKBa, Akt2/PKBb, and Akt3/PKBg) have been cloned. Akt2 and Akt3 have 81% and 83% homology in aa sequences with Akt1, respectively. Numerous studies have revealed that the expression pattern of Akt1 and Akt2 is ubiquitous, whereas Akt3 is expressed predominantly in the brain, heart, and kidneys. Akt has a pivotal role in cell cycle progression, inhibition of apoptosis and cell growth. Applications: Suitable for use in Western Blot. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Western Blot: 0.5-2ug/ml Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
