Salivary Amylase is a digestive enzyme secreted by salivary glands, it consists of a single polypeptide chain with a molecular weight of 56kD (family B) or 62kD (family A), the difference in molecular weight being due to the presence or absence of a carbohydrate moiety. The total serum concentration of amylase is about 120g/L of which about 50% is salivary amylase. Although salivary amylase and pancreatic amylase share 95% aa sequence homology, they differ in molecular size, isoelectric point and antigenic properties. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
