Autophagy is an important mechanism for nonselective intracellular breakdown whereby cytosol and organelles are encapsulated in vesicles, which are then engulfed and digested by lytic vacuoles/lysosomes. ATG5 is required for autophagy. It conjugates to ATG12 and associates with isolation membrane to form autophagosomes. The conjugate detaches from the membrane immediately before or after autophagosome formation is completed. Conjugation to ATG12 is essential for autophagy, but is not required for association with isolation membrane. ATG5 also plays an important role in the apoptotic process. Its expression is a relatively late event in the apoptotic process, occurring downstream of caspase activity. \n\nApplications: \nSuitable for use in ELISA. Other applications not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilution:\nELISA: 1:64000\nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, aliquot and store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
