BrdU is a thymidine analog that, when added to replicateing cells, is incorporated into newly synthesized DNA strands. Evaluating the uptake of BrdU by dividing cells can provide a reliable estimation of cellular prolieration rates. BrdU immunohistochemistry may prove useful in determining proliferative rates for the evaluation of tumors. Positive Control: Bromodeoxyuridine labeled cells. Applications: Suitable for use in Immunofluorescence, Flow Cytometry, Immunohistochemistry (Fr) (paraffin-embedded sections) and Immunocytochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, aliquot Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

Additional info: The antibody is specific for DNA in which BrdU has been incorporated. In immunoassays this antibody reacts strongly with free or carrier-protein coupled BrdU but not with other nucleosides. In immuncytochemistry the antibody only recognizes BrdU in denaturated (single stranded) DNA. The BrdU antibody is 100% crossreactive with Iodo-Deoxy-Uridine (IrdU). Therfore, IdU instead of BrdU can be used in studies. Species Crossreactivity: Crossreacts with human.
