Calponin is a 34kD polypeptide that interacts with actin, tropomyosin, and calmodulin. It is involved in smooth muscle contraction mechanism and is restricted exclusively to smooth muscle tissue. Anti- calponin has been found to be useful in differentiating benign sclerosing lesions of the breast from carcinoma. Calponin positivity has also been noted in malignant myoepithelioma and pleomorphic adenoma of salivary gland origin, as well as angiomatoid malignant fibrous histiocytoma. Applications: Suitable for use in Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin, frozen): 1:50-1:200 Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Positive Control: Smooth muscle from various sources including bowel, esophagus, uterus Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
