Catalase is a hemoprotein containing four subunits which decomposes peroxide. Catalytic activity is present in nearly all animal cells and organs and in aerobic microorganisms. \n\nActivity:\n(same/more than) 40000 units/mg protein\n\nUnit Definition: \n1 unit decomposes 1umole of hydrogen peroxide per minute at 25 degrees C, pH 7.0.\n\nComposition: \n4 subunits of equal size (MW 60,000-65,000)\n\nQuality Control:\nSDS-PAGE\n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C. Do not freeze. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.\n\nProtect from moisture.

Supplied as a crystalline aqueous suspension. Contains thymol as a preservative. To remove thymol, measure desired amount of mixed suspension, centrifuge to collect enzyme crystals, remove supernatant. Resuspend crystals in one-half initial volume of water, respin. Discard wash supernatant and dissolve crystals in buffer of choice.
