Cathepsin D is an aspartyl protease expressed in all cells and has a role on the degradation of proteins in lysosomes. It is initially expressed as an inactive 52kD precursor and activated by proteolysis. This antibody detects both precursor and mature forms. It does not react with human cathepsins B, C, G and H and with bovine cathepsins D and B.
