CD103 is the integrin alphaE subunit which usually forms a heterodimer with the integrin beta7 subunit. It is expressed on intraepithelial lymphocytes and 1-2% of peripheral blood lymphocytes. CD103 binds E-cadherin on epithelial cells. This interaction may be of importance in the homing and retention of CD103+ lymphocytes in the intestinal epithelium.1-4
