The CD14 molecule has been reported to be involved in the endotoxin mediated release of Tumor Necrosis Factor alpha by monocytic cells (see S.D. Wright et al.). Inhibits the endotoxin induced release of TNF by monocytes because it blocks the binding of LPS-LBP to monocytes. CD14 is present on most monocytic and macrophage like cell types: monocytes, macrophages, Kupffer cells, pleural phagocytic cells and dendritic reticular cells. CD14 is present in low density on a subpopulation granulocytes and activated or transformed B-cells. The antibody reacts with both soluble and monocyte surface CD14. Applications: Suitable for use in Flow Cytometry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Flow Cytometry: 5ul of antibody is required per 10e6 cells. Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, aliquot and store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. FITC conjugates are sensitive to light.

Additional info: Recognizes CD14. This molecule is a high affinity, GPI-linked receptor for lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and LPS binding protein, LPB. It is expressed at high levels on peripheral blood monocytes. This receptor is also expressed on macrophages, dendritic cells and some Langerhans cells.
