CD40 is a type I intergral membrane protein, which is a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor family. In chickens, CD40 is expressed on immature and mature B-cells, monocytes and macrophages. The binding of the CD40 ligand to CD40 is reported to play an important role in chicken B-cell development.
