CD41 (GPIIb) is a calcium-depedent, noncovalently associated heterodimer and contains a heavy chain (GPIIb-alpha) and a light chain (GPIIb-beta) linked by a single disulfied bond. The HIP2 monoclonal antibody reacts with the human CD41 molecule IIb also known as platelet GPIIb. CD41 non-covalently associates with beta3 integrin (GPIIIa, CD61) and is expressed by platelet precursors and platelets (megakaryocytes). The CD41/CD61 complex is a receptor for fibronectin, fibrinogen, von Willebrand factor, vitronectin and thrombospondin and mediates platelets aggregation. The GPIIb/IIIa may be absent or strongly reduced in Glanzmann
