CD49d (VLA-4) inhibits adhesion of rat lymphocytes to cytokine-activated endothelial cells. It blocks binding of rat lymphocytes to purified VCAM-1 and to the CS-1 peptide of fibronectin. VLA-4 is a leukocyte integrin which plays an important role in lymphocyte adhesion and activation.
