The CD53 (HI29) antibody recognizes a 32-42 kDa type-III membrane glycoprotein called TM4. CD53 antigen appears to be the marker with the strictest specificity for hematopoietic cells e, Xenopus/Amphibian,pressing on all leukocytes including plasma cells, but not on platelets, erythrocytes and non-hematopoietic cells. CD53 mediates signal transduction.
