The CD54 (ICAM-1) is an integral membrane glycoprotein of 85-110kD with seven potential N-linked glycosylation sites. The antigen is expressed on monocytes and endothelial cells. Expression of the CD54 glycoprotein can be induced or upregulated on many cells types including B and T lymphocytes, thymocytes, fibroblasts, keratinocytes and epithelial cells. The CD54 antigen is important in mediating immune and inflammatory responses.
