ICAM-1 is a novel member of Ig superfamily consisting of 5 Ig-like domains in the extracellular region, a transmembrane region and a short cytoplasmic tail. It is expressed on endothelial cells, leukocytes, lymphocytes, and monocytes and is used as a functional receptor for major group of human rhinovirus. It binds to CD11a/CD18 (LFA-1) and CD11b/CD18 (Mac-1) and promotes the adhesion and transendothelial migration of leukocytes during inflammatory responses. Its other functions include cell-cell adhesion during immune responses, activating signaling pathways in endothelial cells and functioning as a co-stimulatory molecule for T-cell activation in APCs. Its expression can be up-regulated by various stress stimuli and inflammatory cytokines and involves NF-kB dependent and independent signaling pathways. Applications: Suitable for use in Western Blot. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Western Blot: 1:500-1:1000 Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Positive Control: HUVEC cells Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
