FAS is a single-pass type I membrane protein and a member of the TNF-receptor superfamily. The interaction between this receptor and the FAS ligand (TNFSF6/FASLG) forms a death-inducing signalling complex that includes Fas-associated death domain protein (FADD), caspase 8 and caspase 10. Processing of the caspases in this complex leads to apoptosis.
