Collagen Type VI

The collagens are a superfamily of proteins that play a role in maintaining the integrity of various tissues. Collagens are extracellular matrix proteins and have a triple helical domain as their common structural element. Collagen VI is a major structural component of microfibrils. The basic structural unit of collagen VI is a heterotrimer of the alpha 1(VI), alpha 2(VI), and alpha 3(VI) chains. Mutations in the genes that code for the collagen VI subunits result in the autosomal dominant disorder, Bethlem myopathy.\n\nApplications: \nSuitable for use in Immunohistochemistry, Immunoprecipitation and Dot Blot. Other applications have not been tested.\n\nRecommended Dilutions:\nImmunohistochemistry: Cyostat sections fixed with either acetone or 4% formaldehyde. Not tested on paraffin embedded tissues.\nOptimal dilution determined by the researcher. \n\nStorage and Stability: \nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.

Recognizes human collagen type VI. Specificity established by identical reaction in immunoprecipitation of labeled lysates of human osteosarcoma cells MG63 with a reference monclonal antibody to type VI collagen. Precipitates a 140kD band and some dimers. Stains stroma of different organs with a pattern identical to that of the reference antibody.
