Catechol-O-methyltransferase catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine to catecholamines, including the neurotransmitters dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. This O-methylation results in one of the major degradative pathways of the catecholamine transmitters. In addition to its role in the metabolism of endogenous substances, COMT is important in the metabolism of catechol drugs used in the treatment of hypertension, asthma, and Parkinson disease. COMT is found in two forms in tissues, a soluble form (S-COMT) and a membrane-bound form (MB-COMT). The differences between S-COMT and MB-COMT reside within the N-termini. Several transcript variants are formed through the use of alternative translation initiation sites and promoters.\n\nApplications:\nSuitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot. Other applications not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilutions: \nPeptide ELISA: 1:8000\nWestern Blot: 0.3-1ug/ml ~626kDa plus 29kDa bands observed in Human Testis lysates (calculated MW of 30.0kDa according to NP_000745.1 and of 24.5kDa according to NP_009294.1).\nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. \n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months.
