Involved in retinoic acid metabolism by oxidizing retinoic acid into inactive metabolite and is essential for postnatal survival and germ cell development. Involved in the specific inactivation of all-trans-retinoic acid (RA). Responsible for generation of several hydroxylated forms of RA, including 4-OH-RA, 4-oxo-RA, and 18-OH-RA. Has a preferred activity toward the following substrates: all-trans-RA > 9-cis-RA > 13-cis-RA. Plays a central role in germ cell development: acts by degrading RA in the developing testis, preventing STRA8 expression, thereby leading to delay meiosis. Required for the maintenance of the undifferentiated state of male germ cells during embryonic development in Sertoli cells to arrest male germ cells in the G0 phase of the cell cycle and prevent them from entering meiosis.\n\nApplications:\nSuitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilution:\nELISA: 1:128,000\nWestern Blot: 0.1ug/ml\nImmunohistochemistry (Paraffin): 4-6ug/ml\nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
