Death associated protein 6 (daxx) is found in the major histocompatibility complex class I region of the zebrafish. Its role in zebrafish is not well characterized in literature. One study has found a high degree of linkage conservation between the zebrafish class I and mammalian class II regions. In humans, daxx is thought to mediate activation of the JNK pathway and apoptosis via MAP3K5 in response to signaling from TNFRSF6. Daxx-mediated apoptosis may be blocked by HSPB1/HSP27 through preventing interaction with TNFRSF6 and MAP3K5.
