DUSP18 is a 188aa protein belonging to the protein-tyrosine phosphatase family and contains one tyrosine-protein phosphatase domain. DUSP18 appears to serve an important role in the regulation of the SAPK/JNK pathway. It dephosphorylates p-nitrophenyl phosphate (pNPP) and has the ability to dephosphorylate both phospho-tyrosyl and phospho-seryl/threonyl residues that play important roles in the regulation of mitogenic signal transduction and control the cell cycle. It is expressed in liver, brain, ovary and testis.
