EBF3 (Early B-cell factor 3) belongs to the conserved Olf/EBF family of helix-loop-helix transcription factors, which regulate neurogenesis and differentiation. It recognizes variations of the palindromic sequence 5'-ATTCCCNNGGGAATT-3'. EBF3 is expressed in normal brain but is silenced in brain tumors suggesting that it may regulate a transcriptional program underlying a putative tumor suppression pathway.
