The EGFR, epidermal growth factor receptor, belongs to a family of receptor tyrosine kinases in mammals, which is composed of four members: EGFR (Erb B1), Erb B2, ErbB3 and ErbB4. EGFR is a 1210aa residue trans-membrane glycoprotein, which can binds to Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF), Transforming Growth Factor-a (TGF-a), Heparin-binding EGF (HB-EGF), amphiregulin, beta-cellulin and epiregulin and can reveals close similarity between the entire predicted v-Erb-B mRNA oncogene product and the receptor transmembrane and cytoplasmic domains.
