Frizzled 1, NT (FZD1)

The Wnt signaling pathway plays important roles in development, cell proliferation, and cell movement. Wnts are secreted signaling proteins that are thought to be mediated by the Frizzled family of seven transmembrane proteins. Frizzleds act as receptors for Wnt proteins and may also be involved in cell migration patterns. Signaling by Wnt-1 via Frizzled homologues activates the function of Dishevelled, which represses the activity of glycogensynthase kinase-3, which in turn promotes the elevation of intracellular beta-catenin levels and accumulation of b-catenin in nuclei. The beta-catenin interacts with members of the TCF (T-cell factor) transcription family and activates expression of Wnt target genes such as c-myc and cyclin D1, which triggers cell proliferation, oncogenic transformation, and apoptosis inhibition. A recent study has also shown that LRP1 (Low Density Lipoprotein Receptor-1) interacts with Frizzled-1 to downregulate canonical Wnt signaling activity. \n\nApplications:\nSuitable for use in Western Blot.
