Follicle-Stimulating Hormone beta (FSH beta) is a 21kD component of the glycoprotein hormone FSH. It is secreted by the pituitary in noncovalent association with an alpha chain that is also a component of luteinizing hormone, thryoid stimulating hormone, and chorionic gonadotropin. FSH promotes ovarian follicle maturation and spermatogenesis through interactions with FSH R. Human FSH beta shares approximately 90% aa sequence identity with mouse and rat FSH beta.
