GABA Receptor A, alpha 2 (Gamma-aminobutyric Acid Receptor Type A alpha 2 Subunit, GABRA2)

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system, causing a hyperpolarization of the membrane through the opening of a Cl- channel associated with the GABAA-Receptor (GABAA-R) subtype. GABAA-Rs are important therapeutic targets for a range of sedative, anxiolytic, and hypnotic agents and are implicated in several diseases including epilepsy, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse. The GABAA-R is a multimeric subunit complex. To date six alpha, four beta and four gamma, plus alternative splicing variants of some of these subunits, have been identified. Injection in oocytes or mammalian cell lines of cRNA coding for alpha and beta subunits results in the expression of functional GABAA-Rs sensitive to GABA \n\nApplications: \nSuitable for Dot Blot and Western Blot. Other applications not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilution:\nDot Blot: 1:1000\nWestern Blot: 1:1000. Western blot analysis of 10ug of rat brain lysate showed immunolabeling of the 53kD GABAA-R alpha2. \n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, aliquot and add glycerol (40-50%). Freeze at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
