Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein (GFAP)

Cat no: G2037-08

Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein (GFAP)

Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein (GFAP) is an intermediate filament protein of astrogia with a molecular weight of 50kD. The human GFAP gene is located on chromosome 17. In general, normal and neoplastic astrocytic cells stain positively with GFAP, whereas ganglion cells, neurons, fibroblasts and oligodendrocytes and the tumors derived from these cells will stain negatively. GFAP is also found in Schwann cells and enteric glia. GFAP has proven useful for the identification of benign astrocytes and neoplastic cells of glial lineage.\n\nApplications:\nSuitable for use in Immunohistochemistry. Other applications have not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilution:\nImmunohistochemistry: Frozen and formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections\nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.\n\nPositive Control: Cerebral cortex/Astrocytoma\nExpected Staining Pattern: Cytoplasmic\n\nEpitope Retrieval: Not Required\nEnzyme Digestion: Not Required\n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, aliquot and add glycerol (40-50%). Freeze at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
