Glycogen synthase is an enzyme of the transferase class that catalyses the reaction of UDP-glucose and (1,4-a-D-glucosyl)n to yield UDP and (1,4-a-D-glucosyl)n+1 (1-2). This tetrameric enzyme is the rate-limiting step for glycogen synthesis (3). Glycogen concentrations are regulated by the complementary activities of glycogen phosphorylase and glycogen synthase. Glycogen synthase activity is regulated by phosphorylation of serine residues and by insulin stimulation (4). Glycogen synthase is known to have two forms; the unphosphorylated and most active form, synthase-a, and the phosphorylated glucose-6-phosphate-dependent form, synthase-b. Applications: Suitable for use in Western Blot, Immunoprecipitation, Immunohistochemistry, Immunocytochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. For long-term storage, store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. Manufactured incorporating RabMAb(R) technology under Epitomics US patents, No 5,675,063 and 7,429,487, owned by Abcam.
