Growth associated protein GAP43 (B-50, F1, neuromodulin) is a phosphoprotein of the presynaptic membrane involved in synaptic reorganization and neural development. Phospholyated at Ser41 by protein kinase C (PKC), phospholyated GAP43 has been correlated to release of neurotransmitters in mature nervous system (1). Also, GAP43 plays an essential role in the maintenance mechanism of long-term potentiation (LTP) (2). These suggest GAP43 to play a role in synaptic plasticity. For neurons in development or regeneration, GAP43 is a major component of the growth cone, which enables elongation and navigation of developing axons (3). During periods of low activity in neurons, Calmodulin binds to GAP43 when Ca2+ is low, suggesting Calmodulin as a negative regulator of GAP43 (4).\n\nApplications: \nSuitable for use in Immunocytochemistry, Western Blotting. Other applications not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilution:\nWestern Blot: 1:50,000-100,000 \nImmunocytochemistry: 1:100-250 \nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. For long-term storage, store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
