GSK3B, a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family, participates in the Wnt signaling pathway. It is implicated in the hormonal control of several regulatory proteins including glycogen synthase, MYB and the transcription factor JUN. GSK3B phosphorylates JUN at sites proximal to its DNA-binding domain, thereby reducing its affinity for DNA. This protein is inhibited when phosphorylated by AKT1 or ILK1. Its expression is detected in testis, thymus, prostate and ovary, and weakly in lung, brain and kidney.
