Human cervical cancer oncogene (HCCR-1) is a human oncoprotein, and has shown strong tumorigenic features. Its role in tumorogenesis is from a negative regulation of the p53 tumor suppressor gene. HCCR-1 is located in mitochondrial outer membrane, where its function is to retard intrinsic apoptosis e, Xenopus/Amphibian,perimentally-induced by UVC and staurosporine. Uncontrolled e, Xenopus/Amphibian,pression of HCCR-1 causes mitochondrial dysfunction, resulting in the progression of tumor formation. HCCR-1 has also been shown to be a regulatory factor that stimulates morphogenesis of epithelia or mesenchyme during neoplastic transformation.
