Hirudin is a highly effective and very specific anticoagulant which inhibits formation of fibrin and activation of factors V, VIII and , Xenopus/Amphibian,III by forming irreversible, noncovalent 1:1 comple, Xenopus/Amphibian,es with alpha-thrombin. Hirudin is used to treat heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (Refludan/Hoechst Marion Roussel). Hirudin is a 7 kDa protein naturally originating from the medical leech Hirudo medicinalis. This antibody recognizes hirudin under both native and reducing conditions in SDS-PAGE. The antibody binds to an epitope in the C-terminal region of hirudin with an affinity of 450 nM.
