HOX A5 (Mid)

The homeobox genes are a superfamily of genes encoding transcription factors that regulate developmental processes such as body patterning and organogenesis.1 The mammalian HOX gene complex consists of 39 genes that are located on 4 linkage groups (clusters), dispersed over 4 chromosomes (HOXA, HOXB, HOXC and HOXD). HOXA5 (previously identified as HOX-1.3) is essential for correct specification of the cervical and upper thoracic region of the skeleton and for proper patterning of the embryo.2,3 HOXA5 is strongly expressed during gut development and organogenesis of the respiratory tract, and is continuously expressed in cerebellar Purkinje cells of all stages of development (neonates to adults).2-5 Expression of HOXA5 is necessary for the region-specific differentiation of the endoderm and differentiation of the myeloid pathway, and may be an important regulator of hematopoitic cell lineage determination and maturation.4,6,7 HOXA5 is a transcriptional regulator of many target genes, including p53 and the progesterone receptor.8-10 HOXA5 is a transactivator of p53 and may affect the response of breast cancer cells to DNA damage.9,10 In primary breast carcinomas, loss of p53 expression is coupled with loss of HOXA5 expression, suggesting that the loss of HOXA5 expression is important in tumorgenesis..9, 10\n\nApplications: \nSuitable for use in Western Blot. Other applications not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilution:\nWestern Blot: 1-3ug/ml\nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.\n\nPositive Control:\nInduced by removing doxycyclineHOXA5-transfected HS578T-A5 cell lysates\n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. For long-term storage, store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
