PTPDC1 contains a characteristic motif of protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs). PTPs regulate activities of phosphoproteins through dephosphorylation. They are signaling molecules involved in the regulation of a wide variety of biological processes. The specific function of this protein has not yet been determined. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified. Protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs) are a group of enzymes that remove phosphate groups from phosphorylated tyrosine residues on proteins. Protein tyrosine (pTyr) phosphorylation is a common post-translational modification which can create novel recognition motifs for protein interactions and cellular localisation, affect protein stability, and regulate enzyme activity.
