Interferon gamma, Recombinant, Human (IFNg)

Interferon-gamma (IFN-g, also known as Type II interferon or immune interferon) is a cytokine produced primarily by T-lymphocytes and natural killer cells. The protein shares no significant homology with IFN-b or the various IFN-a family proteins. Mature IFN-y exists as noncovalently-linked homodimers. Human IFN-y is highly species specific and is biologically active only in human and primate cells.\nIFN-y was originally characterized based on its antiviral activities. The protein also exerts antiproliferative, immunoregulatory and proinflammatory activities and is thus important in host defense mechanisms. IFN-y induces the production of cytokines, upregulates the expression of class I and II MHC antigens, Fc receptor and leukocyte adhesion molecules. It modulates macrophage effector functions, influences isotype switching and potentiates the secretion of immunoglobulins by B cells. IFN-y also augments TH1 cell expansion and may be required for TH1 cell differentiation.\n\nBiological Activity: \nFully biologically active when compared to standard. The specific activity as determined in a viral resistance assay is less then 0.05 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of 2.0 x 10e7 IU/ mg.\n\nEndotoxin: (same/less than)1EU/ug as determined by LAL method.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nAliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and freeze at -70 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months.
