Recombinant Luciferase is a luciferase expressed from a cloned gene from the North American firefly (Photinus pyralis) that provides the reliability and dependability needed for performing research or producing kits using bioluminescence reagents to detect ATP or luciferin substrates. A recombinant source eliminates the possibility of seasonal and regional variability that may be found in luciferase purified from natural sources. Luciferase catalyzes the oxidation of reduced flavin mononucleotide (FMNH2) and a long chain aldehyde by molecular oxygen to yield FMN, the corresponding acid, H2O and light. Specific Activity: (same/more than)2x10e10 Light Units/mg protein Unit Definition: The light unit value is the light output generated at room temperature over a 10-second period. Light output is measured using a Turner Luminometer Model# TD-20e. Storage and Stability: Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and freeze at -70 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
