MAF1, a Saccharomyces cerevisiae protein is a protein highly conserved in eukaryotic cells and is localized to the nucleus. Interactng with BRF2, MAF1 functions to mediate signals that specifically repress the activity of RNA polymerase III (Pol III), specifically by inhibiting the assembly of TFIIIB onto DNA. It responds to changes in the cellular environment and represses pol III transcription.
