Methione sulfoxide reductase (MsrA) reduces methionine sulfoxide (MetO) residues in proteins and free MetO to Methionine (Met). The catalytic activity of MsrA is dependent of bound metal and cofactors but it requires reducing equivalents from either DTT or a thioredoxin-regenerating system, MsrA plays an essential role in protecting cells against oxidative damage. The substrates of MsrA include calmodulin (1), HIV protease (2) and a1-proteinase-inhibitor (3). Recent studies indicate that there is a connection between MsrA and Alzheimer's disease in mammals (4).\n\nSource:\nRecombinant corresponding to aa1-235, without mitochondrial leader sequence, from human Methionine Sulfoxide Reductase A, expressed in E.coli.\n\nMolecular Weight:\n~28kD\n\nSpecific Activity:\n36U/mg (One unit will cause the oxidation of 1umole of NADPH at 30 degrees C at pH 7.4)\n\nStorage and Stability:\nAliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and store at -70 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
