Neurofilament M (Neurofilament Medium Polypeptide, NF-M, Neurofilament Triplet M Protein, 160kD Neurofilament Protein, Neurofilament 3, Nefm, Nef3, Nfm)

Neurofilaments are the 10nm or intermediate filament proteins found specifically in neurons, and are composed predominantly of three major proteins called NF-L, NF-M and NF-H. NF-M is the neurofilament middle or medium molecular weight polypeptide and runs on SDS-PAGE gels at 145-160kD, with some variability across species boundaries. Antibodies to NF-M are useful for identifying neuronal cells and their processes in tissue sections and in tissue culture. NF-M antibodies can also be useful to visualize of neurofilament accumulations seen in many neurological diseases, such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease) and Alzheimer's disease.\n\nApplications:\nSuitable for use in Immunofluorescence Microscopy, Immunohistochemistry and Western Blot. Other applications not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilution:\nImmunofluorescence Microscopy: 1:500\nWestern Blot: 1:5000\nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.

Recognizes rat NF-M. The epitope is localized to within the last 56 amino acids at the extreme C-terminus of rat NF-M, the so-called KE segment which is highly conserved between NF-M molecules from different species.
