NMDA 2b Receptor (NMDA R2b, N-methyl-D-aspartate, GRIN2B, Glutamate receptor ionotropic N-methyl D-aspartate 2B, HGNC:4586, NR2B, hNR3, N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor subunit 2B)

The NMDA Receptor (NMDAR) plays an essential role in memory, neuronal development and it has also been implicated in several disorders of the central nervous system including Alzheimer's, epilepsy and ischemic neuronal cell death. The NMDA receptor is also one of the principal molecular targets for alcohol in the CNS. The NMDAR is also potentiated by protein phosphorylation. The rat NMDAR1 (NR1) was the first subunit of the NMDAR to be cloned. The NR1 protein can form NMDA activated channels when expressed in Xenopus oocytes but the currents in such channels are much smaller than those seen in situ. Channels with more physiological characteristics are produced when the NR1 subunit is combined with one or more of the NMDAR2 (NR2 A-D) subunits.\n\nApplications: \nSuitable for use in Western Blot. Other applications not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilution:\nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, aliquot Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

Specific for the ~180k NR2B subunit of the NMDA Receptor. No reactivity towards the NR2A and NR2C subunits. Immunolabeling is blocked by pre-adsorption of antibody with the fusion protein used to generate the antibody. Species Crossreactivity: Human, mouse and rat based on 100% antigen sequence homology.
