PBP2a (Penicillin-Binding Protein 2a, Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus, MRSA)

The Anti-PBP2a monoclonal antibody is a marker to PBP2a. It has been raised in a mouse and affinity purified. Recommended use Western Blot or ELISA assay. These are available in large quantity for production purposes if required. Staphylococcus aureus normally produces four PBPs (Penicillin Binding Proteins), enzymes that are anchored on the cytoplasmic membrane, the functions of which are the assembly and regulation of the latter stages of the cell wall biosynthesis. Whereas these four PBPs are susceptible to modification by beta-lactam antibiotics, an event that leads to bacterial death. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains are important nosocomial pathogens worldwide and now are also of growing importance in community-acquired infection. Their resistance depends upon a supplementary peptidoglycan transpeptidase PBP2a (encoded by mecA gene), which continues to function when normal PBPs have been inactivated by beta-lactams. Detection of the mecA gene or of PBP2a appears to most accurately detect methicillin resistance in S. aureus. The PBP2a and the antibodies raised against the PBP2a can be used easily to develop tests for detection of Staphylococcus aureus to differentiate between MRSA and non MRSA staphylococci.\n\nApplications: \nSuitable for use in ELISA and Western Blot. Other applications not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilution:\nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
