Platelet Factor 4, Human (PF4, PF-4, C-X-C Motif Chemokine 4, CXCL4, Iroplact, Oncostatin-A, SCYB4)

Platelet factor-4 is a 70aa protein that is released from the alpha-granules of activated platelets and binds with high affinity to heparin. Its major physiologic role appears to be neutralization of heparin-like molecules on the endothelial surface of blood vessels, thereby inhibiting local antithrombin III activity and promoting coagulation. As a strong chemoattractant for neutrophils and fibroblasts, PF4 probably has a role in inflammation and wound repair. Oncostatin-A is a member of the CXC chemokine family. Human PF4 is used for the proof of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia. Furthermore it is used as an inhibitor in the angiogenesis during tumor therapy. Human PF-4 a 7.8kD protein consisting of 70aa residues.\n\nSource: \nRecombinant corresponding to human PF 4 expressed in human platelets.\n\nAA Sequence:\nThe sequence of the first four N-terminal aa was determined and was found to be Glu-Ala-Glu-Glu.\n\nMolecular Weight: \n~7.8kD\n\nBiological Activity:\nBinding of HIT-antibodies\n\nStorage and Stability:\nLyophilized powder may be stored at -20 degrees C. Stable for 12 months at -20 degrees C. Reconstitute with dH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
