Prion Protein, aa79-97 (PrP, CD230)

Prions are large cell membrane-anchored glycoproteins that are normally localized to the presynaptic membrane of neurons in mammalian brain. Prions are likely to be involved in synaptic transmission. In prion diseases, such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), Gerstmann-Straussler- Scheinker syndrome (GSS), Fatal Familial Insomnia (FFI), Alpers Syndrome, and Kuru, the normal cellular form of this protein (PrPc) is transformed into an altered, proteolysis-resistant form upon coming into contact with an infectious prion protein (PrPsc) from another host. This altered prion protein accumulates in cytoplasmic vesicles of diseased individuals, forming lesions, vacuoles, and amyloid deposits. Prion protein has recently been classified as CD230 at the 7th HLDA workshop. \n\nApplications:\nSuitable for use in Immunohistochemistry, ELISA, Western Blot. Other applications not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilutions:\nImmunohistochemistry (Paraffin): 1:200. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

Recognizes Prion Protein. Has been shown to stain PrPsc plaques in formalin fixed sections of CJD brain. Species Crossreactivity: Bovine, sheep and hamster. PrPc is highly conserved crossreactivity is expected with other species.
