PGE2 is one of the primary COX products of arachidonic acid and one of the most widely investigated prostaglandins. Its activity influences inflammation, fertility and parturition, gastric mucosal integrity, and immune modulation. Because of its involvement in inflammation, PGE2 is the key indicator of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs efficacy via inhibition of COX-1 and COX-2.
