Proteinase K is an enzyme used as a protein denaturant in many molecular-biological techniques. Unit Definition: One Anson unit catalyses the liberation of 1mmol of Folin-positive amino acids at 35C, pH 7.5 in 1 minute. One mAnson unit is defined as the activity of that quantity of enzyme that degrades denatured Haemoglobin under the test conditions at such an inititial rate that the trichloracetic acid soluble cleavage products developing per minute yield the same absorbance with Folin-Ciocalteu's phenol reagent as does 1 umol L-Tyrosine.
